Città di Ebla’s opus, James Joyce’s The Dead, serves as an embodiment of real-time, on-stage photography, a testament to the ephemeral yet potent nature of the visual medium. This artistic endeavour, initiated in 2010, emerged from the conceptual ground prepared by the H2O+Humans project, harnessing the raw potency of its inspirational ethos.

In 2014, we became an integral facet of the Mime Festival in London, gifting audiences with a series of five performances gracing the stage of the illustrious Barbican Centre from January 28th to February 1st.

Each performance distilled a unique instance in time, immortalizing the fleeting interplay between light and shadow. The anthology serves as a commemorative tribute to half a decade of our dedicated craftsmanship, crafting abstract imagery derived from quintet of unique on-stage shots.

About this project

Same moment, different day.
The transformation of these images into a single composite involved a meticulous process of disassembling each shot into minute vertical stripes, and then reassembling them following a rigid protocol: the first stripe corresponds to the first day, the second to the second day, and so forth. This methodology engenders a complex visual tapestry, where the viewer struggles to discern individual subjects amidst the kaleidoscope of fragments. Subsequently, the observer is propelled on a visual odyssey, navigating the liminal terrain reminiscent of a dreamscape, where vestiges of memories blend and intertwine, offering a profound exploration of perception, memory, and time."
